Additional Community Outreach Programs:

This program provides for the basic needs of the underprivileged in the community. Community Harvest Outreach provides food and clothing to those in need through the clothes closet and food pantry services.

Our goal is to reduce malnutrition in the most vulnerable: children and the elderly and to prevent illnesses due to improper clothing and lack of food.

  • The food and clothing program provides individuals who may not qualify for assistance through social services but nevertheless would be hungry without the distribution.
  • Our meals on wheels program provides hot meals daily to senior adults or persons with disabilities who live alone.
  • The outreach program provides emergency assistance in paying utility bills, mortgages, and maintenance essentials for qualifying individuals as resources will allow. Distributing appropriate clothing for individuals seeking employment as well as school-age children will enhance confidence, self-esteem and success.
  • Regular distribution of clothing and coats in the winter months provided to individuals in need will prevent illnesses and keep the cost of medical care low as many disadvantaged individuals are uninsured and cannot afford medical treatment.
  • Our outreach program also provides school supplies yearly for underprivileged students in grades Kindergarten to 12.

Community Harvest Outreach will make regular visits to the elderly in hospital and nursing homes. With the permission of the patients and medical staff, the Community Harvest Outreach representative will share small gifts on occasions such as birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Support will be offered, as many elderly patients in institutions have no regular visits from family members or friends. Community Harvest Outreach will work to inspire the patients, offer encouragement and companionship.

    Youth Programs:

The program will focus on providing at-risk youth with a comprehensive program working to improve their sense of self-worth, confidence and self-discipline and parental awareness.

The program provides mentoring, tutoring, and provide safe environments that allow healthy peer relationships. The program process will use recreational activities to motivate youth to successfully complete schoolwork and homework and encourage positive behavior and developing good character. Parental and family involvement is a strong component of the program, which will allow for that constructive, continuing interaction of parents and children.

The focus on teaching youth and teens to improve academic performance in school will thereby increase their opportunities beyond graduation. The program will stress changing lifestyles to incorporate caring, sharing and responsibility as fundamental goals.

Community Harvest Outreach understands the enormous problems and the consequences of wrong choices facing our youth and the community-at-large. Youth are tomorrow’s workforce, leaders and parents. The participants of the programs, the community and society as a whole will benefit.

Annual Lots of Toys for Tots

With the mission “Reaching the Community One Family at a Time,” the first annual Lots of Toys for Tots sponsored by Community Harvest Outreach, Inc., proved to be a success.

Chairperson Laequinla Hunter and the Community Harvest Outreach staff had Saturday morning running flawlessly with families coming in from all over the Hampton Roads area with some coming as far as Richmond, Virginia.

There was a line wrapped around the building with many families showing up as early as 8 am with the distribution of toys set to begin at 10 am. As parents began to register, those remaining in line waited expectantly.

While the parents picked out toys and games in one room, the children watched the movie, “The Polar Express,” on a big screen in another room eagerly anticipating the wonderful gifts in store for them. As an added bonus, before heading out, parents stopped by the clothes closet to select from among scores of new and gently used clothing.

At the end of the day, with the support of local businesses in the community – Citizens National Bank, Agape Christian Bookstores and Windsor Pharmacy -555 brand new free toys were disseminated to 222 children.

Community Harvest Outreach is Gearing up for 2nd Annual Lots of Toys for Tots Drive this December. To volunteer for this event or any others call us at 757-556-5403.
